Regional Organization of the Year
This category is for not-for-profit organizations or government agencies that have achieved overall excellence and made a significant effort to address, inform, and/or educate the public about transportation, air quality improvement, or smart-growth issues.
Selection Criteria
- Stellar public involvement campaigns;
- Innovative transportation, air quality, and/or smart-growth plans or programs; and
- Integration of new technology applications in practices, education and/or in informing decision making processes at the local, regional, state or federal level.
Urban Land Institute – Sacramento
The Urban Land Institute – Sacramento provides a forum for valuable educational programs related to best practices in land use and public policy initiatives that affect our community and region. ULI Sacramento has over 2,000 members representing the development community, local elected officials, government agencies, and non-profit agencies. ULI Sacramento brings together multiple sectors and stakeholders together to implement the most sustainable and viable development for the Sacramento region.
Feather River Air Quality Management District
Feather River Air Quality Management District has been a critical and regular partner to Yuba-Sutter Transit by providing grants to fund several fleet expansions and upgrades including infrastructure improvements such as bus stop shelters and benches, passenger information panels, and the addition of bike racks on busses. In 2013, the District funded the highly successful $5 youth and senior monthly pass program and the purchase of new low-floor busses for fixed route service.
Paratransit, Inc., Mobility Training Program
Paratransit, Inc.’s Mobility Training Program supports residents with mental disabilities and seniors in accessing traditional transit service. The Mobility Training Program is a long term cost savings program by supporting residents to access fixed-route service over dial-a-ride. Originally, a pilot program, Paratransit Inc. has built the Mobility Training Program into a sustainable model for other transit agencies throughout the county. In our region, over 12 thousand residents have received training.
Soil Born Farms
Since 2005, Soil Born Farms has focused its Farm-to-School programs on providing experiential farm-based education and hands-on cooking classes. Their education programs focus on land stewardship, service and leadership skills, ecological and agricultural literacy, and food access.
Soil Born provides access to their certified organic vegetables directly to students through school and after-school youth programming at their Hurley and American River farms.
Sacramento Metro Chamber
For collaborative efforts to represent the Sacramento region in local, state and federal advocacy.
Urban Land Institute Sacramento
For exemplary professional practice, education and engagement on regional land use, transportation and air quality issues.
Placer County Transportation Planning Agency
Agency of the Year recognizes a non-profit or government agency that has engaged the public and achieved excellence in land use, transportation and air quality plans or programs. Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) recognizes an agency that has delivered above and beyond what the community expects. The 2007 SACOG Salutes! Agency of the Year is Placer County Transportation Planning Agency.

For exemplary efforts at increasing sustainability and livability by expanding urban forests and optimizing the benefits of tree canopies.
Valley Vision
For exemplary civic leadership resulting in the recruitment of thousands of participants for the public outreach component of the Blueprint Project.
