This category recognizes private businesses that have made significant contributions to the region in transportation, air quality, and/or smart growth.
Selection Criteria
- Innovative projects, programs, or events held by the nominee to educate, promote, or acknowledge programs in transportation, air quality, and/or smart growth externally or internally within the business
Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen
Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen is bicycle shop and learning center serving the residents of Sacramento. The organization was formed in order to promote cycling as a low-cost, alternative form of transportation; enable self-sufficiency through knowledge of bicycle maintenance; and promote bicycle safety through education and classes. The Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen is staffed solely with volunteers and is funded by donations and fundraising activities.
DST Output, Employee Vanpool Program
DST Output’s commitment to privately funding their Employee Alternatives Modes program is a model for the region. DST Output is contributing to air quality improvement by taking their employees out of single-occupancy vehicles and into commuter vans. They provide employees a $125 subsidy to participate in the vanpool program. With its current participation level, this equates to approximately $100,000 annually in private funds being invested into taking cars off the road.
Mulvaney’s B&L
Patrick and Bobbin Mulvaney prove that not only fine-dining restaurants and caterers can buy from local farmers, but that locally grown food can be incorporated at many scales and in many outlets. The B&L restaurant and Crocker Museum Café showcase seasonal and local ingredients to visitors from near and far.
Bogle Vineyards
In 30 years, Bogle Vineyards in Clarksburg has become the 18th largest winery in California. In recent years, its growth has forced the winery to send most of its grapes out of the area to be processed.
VSP Vision Care
For CO2 reductions through alternative mode transportation, and use of eco-friendly materials and operations.
KCRA 3
Business of the Year recognizes a private business that has made significant contributions to the region in transportation, land use and air quality. The 2007 SACOG Salutes! Business of the Year is KCRA 3.
For over 50 years, KCRA 3 a member of the Hearst-Argyle stations has been where local residents tune in for news about what is happening in their community. KCRA 3 has long supported community organizations such as Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, CHiPs for Kids Toy Drive, and the Pacific Rim Street Fest.
50 Mobility Partnership
For exemplary efforts to enhance mobility in the Highway 50 corridor in Rancho Cordova, Folsom, Sacramento County and El Dorado Hills.
Regis Homes
For exemplary infill development of smart growth communities offering single-family detached housing and live/work lofts in the Cities of Sacramento and West Sacramento.
Taylor Heavy Hauling
Major user of large diesel trucks, for exemplary efforts in replacing heavy-duty diesel vehicles through the SECAT program, resulting in the removal of 15.76 tons of nitrous oxide per year from the air in the Sacramento Region.
KVIE Channel 6
Extensive array of television programming for all ages that focuses on national trends and developments as well as local features and programs for the Sacramento region.
KCRA – Channel 3
Production of a video illustrating the region’s economic, natural and cultural amenities.
