Effective Engagement and Active Design
What makes a safe trail for West Sacramento residents?

Post

The City of West Sacramento identified the need for a bike and pedestrian bridge over highway 50 to connect Joey Lopes Park with Westmore Oaks Elementary school and to overcome the active transportation barrier created by the eight-lane elevated freeway. Over the month of April, the City partnered with WalkSacramento to solicit input from residents on how they should design trail and crossing improvements connecting the existing segment of the Sycamore Trail with Westmore Oaks. Through this partnership, the City was able to learn more about the community’s needs related to green spaces, public art, safety improvements to the trail, and park design. (View the final report)

This free technical assistance program with WalkSacramento will be available through August 2017 (program flier); the program is funded in part by a Sustainable Communities Planning Grant from the California Strategic Growth Council.
