Accelerating Infill Housing in Small Town Environment
Nov 2022 ULI workshop in Yuba City and Marysville

In response to a request from the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG), the Urban Land Institute Sacramento assembled a panel of local real-estate developers, planning and design professionals, and market and economic analysts for an intensive one-day onsite program to identify strategies for developing new housing at the former Fremont Hospital and adjoining vacant property in downtown Yuba City, and at Washington Square Park in downtown Marysville. Both sites fall within locally adopted Green Zones.

The small town workshop, brought forward in partnership with the City of Yuba City, the City of Marysville, AECOM and the Blue Zones Project- Yuba Sutter, drilled into the development economics and housing market potential of the two sites.

ULI Sacramento is currently distilling the workshop materials into a final report, which will be presented to each of the two city councils (and shared here once final). The effort has also produced substantial background material (found in the related links to the right of post).

The ULI panel consisted of:

  • Allen Folks, Ascent, chair
  • Marq Truscott, RQ Studio
  • Joanna Mack, Salazar Architect, Inc.
  • John Jewett, Taylor Builders
  • Allen Knott, K2 Development Companies
  • Aaron Nousaine, BAE Urban Economics
  • Tim Youmans, Youmans Consulting

The technical assistance effort was offered free of charge to the local jurisdictions through SACOG’s Green Means Go program.
