Regional Transit Network Study

The Regional Transit Network is a collaborative effort between SACOG, transit operators, and planning agencies to improve the region’s public transportation services.

The Regional Transit Network is not meant to be a redesign of the whole network; it is meant to complement and improve existing transit services. Even before the pandemic, the regional transit system has been challenged with declines in ridership and funding. Using data and input from transit operators and community members, the Regional Transit Network is a road map to address these challenges and get people back on transit and where they need to go. The plan provides a map of key connections, defined service types, and prioritized infrastructure improvements to be included in the 2025 Blueprint.

Community Engagement

In Spring 2023, SACOG conducted a series of public outreach activities to build awareness about the study and ask for community feedback. Following this outreach, the project team is now working closely with transit operators and planning agencies to prioritize transit corridors, develop standards, and continue to refine the network based upon technical analysis, best practices, and community feedback received.

Completed Outreach Activities

Virtual Community Workshops (April 19 and 20, 2023): SACOG hosted two Virtual Community Workshops for community members to learn more about the Regional Transit Network from project team members and provide their feedback.

Online Survey (March 15 – May 5): An online community survey was open to the public for a seven-week period, and was available in English, Spanish, Chinese (simplified), Russian, Hmong, and Arabic. A printed survey was also published online for community members to download and mail, scan, or drop off to SACOG. More than 900 community members participated in the survey.

Pop-up Workshops (March – April): SACOG staff attended local community events and transit hubs throughout the six counties to build awareness about the Regional Transit Network and encourage community members to provide feedback in the online survey.

Regional Transit Network Plan

The SACOG Regional Transit Network Plan was approved by the SACOG Board of Directors at their May 2024 meeting.

Proposed High-Capacity Transit Corridors

After extensive engagement with operators and planning agencies, the project team developed a draft list of high-capacity transit (HCT) corridors through a data-driven process.
