SACOG hosted the fifth Data and Modeling User Conference on September 24-25, 2024. The various sessions happening over the two-day conference looked at topics like the 2025 Blueprint, SACOG's Travel Demand Model (SACSIM), SACOG’s data portal, land use, housing, regional data and monitoring efforts, census data, project evaluation tools, a land use modification tool, big data and more.

This was an open and free event to anyone who uses SACOG provided data, model or tools, and was interested in learning more about their implementations. This includes local planners, modelers, consultants, and generally interested parties.

2022 Travel Demand Model User Conference

June 8-9, 2022

SACOG virtually hosted its fourth Travel Demand Modeling User Conference June 8-9, 2022. Through three sessions over two days, attendees learned about SACOG’s travel model (SACSIM) and other data tools used for transportation planning for the SACOG region.

SACOG virtually hosted its third Travel Demand Modeling User Conference March 9-11, 2021. Through five sessions over three days, attendees learned about SACOG’s travel model (SACSIM) and other data tools used for transportation planning for the SACOG region.

2020 Travel Demand Model User Conference

SACOG hosted the free 2020 Travel Demand Modeling User Conference on February 24 and 25, 2020. Attendees learned about SACOG’s travel model (SACSIM) and other data tools used for transportation planning for the SACOG region.

The 2020 two-day conference focused on:

2020 MTP/SCS modeling applications and data release,
what SB 743 and roadway pricing mean for transportation planning and,
roundtable user discussions and hands on training workshops.

Focused on workshops to take a deeper dive into working directly with the model and understanding how to use it.

2019 Travel Demand Model User Conference

The January 2019 user conference brought together modelers along with planners and engineers interested in learning more about the model. Day one brought in 36 attendees representing a diverse group of modelers, planners, and engineers. The morning session provided an in-depth overview of how the model works and some of its key applications. The afternoon session demonstrated how to use the travel model for basic scenario testing.

Day two was attended by 22 modelers and engineers and focused on the model’s new functionalities for modeling tolling, autonomous vehicles (AVs), and use of paid ride share services (e.g., Uber and Lyft). Model developers from consultant RSG gave an overview on the theory behind the new modules, while SACOG staff walked participants through use of the new modules as well as the results of SACOG’s initial tests.

The conference also served as a venue to train nine beta testers from local consulting firms, California Air Resources Board, and UC Davis’s Institute of Transportation Studies. These organizations will test the new model features and serve as a valuable source of peer feedback to help with future model development.
