Understanding how people travel today and consider how they will travel in the future.

To make plans that will shape how people will live, work, and play, we need to understand how people travel today and think about how they will travel in the future. SACOG uses the travel demand model to understand how people move and the information gained from the models help create plans for the future.

The model is known as SACSIM, which predicts how people in the six-county region travel on a typical weekday, including where they go, when they make trips, why they make trips, what travel mode(s) they use, and more. SACOG is now hosting the code and scripts for all of its analytical tools on GitHub.

Analysis Tools

Analysis Tools space provides tools and documentation supplementary to general SACSIM processes. SACOG modeling team will continue to update this page with additional analysis tools as needed for regional forecasting support to member agencies. For questions regarding the analysis tools, contact SACOG modeling staff at sacsim@sacog.org.

Land Use Processing Tools

SACSIM land use inputs are the primary data source for households and jobs on each parcel. While SACSIM does not require land use input updates to run, users may wish to make their own adjustments to land use and population to test alternative scenarios. To aid users in making these adjustments, SACOG staff have provided multiple processing tools and documentation to help users assemble SACSIM’s parcel-point land use and population inputs. Assembly of additional land use inputs such as school employment and enrollments, street pattern, off-street parking supply and cost, and transit proximity are also described in the resources below.

SACOG also provides python scripts for land use input processing. These scripts are available on SACOG’s GitHub
