SACOG Swears in Board Leadership for 2023
January 19, 2023: The Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) Board of Directors has elected County of Sacramento Supervisor Patrick Kennedy as the board chair and City of Placerville Mayor Michael Saragosa, as the board vice chair. They were sworn in during the first board meeting of the year on January 19, 2023.
Chair Patrick Kennedy has served on the SACOG board since 2015 and as the board vice chair in 2022. In 2014 Kennedy was elected to the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors to represent District 2, which includes the South Sacramento region and Freeport community.
Kennedy also serves on several local boards and commissions in addition to SACOG. He is currently vice chair of the Sacramento Regional Transit District board, vice chair of the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District, and serves on the Sacramento Transportation Authority board of directors.
Kennedy has a long history of community service and has been an active member of the Sacramento community. He served on the Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Education from 2008 to 2014, was the founding president of the Hollywood Park Neighborhood Association, and he served on the Sacramento City Planning Commission from 1993 to 2004. Kennedy is also a current member of the California Bar.
Vice chair, Michael Saragosa joined the SACOG board in 2019, served as chair of the Land Use and Natural Resource Committee in 2022, and on the Race, Equity, & Inclusion Working Group since 2020. Saragosa is the current vice mayor for the City of Placerville, where he was appointed to the council in 2018, and was re-elected in 2020. He has served on several high-level positions within the Schwarzenegger Administration including Undersecretary at State and Consumer Services, Executive Director of the Employment Training Panel, Deputy Cabinet Secretary and Chief Deputy Appointments Secretary. He currently owns and operates his own public affairs firm with his wife.
During the meeting, Chair Kennedy also announced committee appointments for 2023 which includes: Policy & Innovation Committee Chair Wendy Thomas, a supervisor from El Dorado County, Vice Chair Trinity Burruss the mayor pro tem of the City of Colfax; Land Use & Natural Resources Chair Gary Bradford, supervisor from Yuba County, Vice Chair Karm Bains, a supervisor from Sutter County, and Vice Chair Rich Lozano, a councilmember for the City of Galt; Transportation Committee Chair Jill Gayaldo a councilmember for the City of Rocklin, Vice Chair Rich Desmond, a supervisor from Sacramento County, and Vice Chair Darren Suen, a councilmembers from the City of Elk Grove.
