SACOG Swears in Board Leadership for 2022
January 20, 2022: The Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) Board of Directors has elected City of Sacramento councilmember Rick Jennings as the 2022 board chair and Sacramento County supervisor Patrick Kennedy as board vice chair. They were sworn in during the first board meeting of the year on January 20, 2022.
Chair-elect Jennings has served on the SACOG board since 2019 and served as vice chair in 2021. In 2014 Jennings was elected to the Sacramento City Council to represent District 7, which includes the communities of Greenhaven, Pocket, the Detroit Boulevard area, Delta Shores, and a large portion of the Valley Hi community. Jennings was appointed vice mayor for the City of Sacramento in 2016.
Since 1997 Jennings, a former NFL player, has been the chief executive officer of the Center for Fathers and Families (CFF), a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening families and building communities in Sacramento. CFF serves more than 1,800 at-risk youth each day with after school programs and 100 adults weekly with parenting, anger management, and domestic violence prevention classes, and health services. He was elected to the Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Education in 1996 and served for 12 years.
Vice Chair-elect, Patrick Kennedy has served on the SACOG board since 2015 and as the vice chair of the SACOG Land Use and Natural Resources Committee in 2021. In 2014 Kennedy was elected to the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors to represent District 2. He also served on the Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Education from 2008 to 2014. Kennedy has long been an active member of the Sacramento community, having served on the Sacramento City planning Commission from 1993 to 2004. He is also a current member of the California Bar.
Chair Jennings also announced committee appointments for 2022. They are: Policy and Innovation Committee Chair Mike Kozlowski, a councilmember from the City of Folsom, Vice Chair Porsche Middleton, the vice mayor of Citrus Heights and Wendy Thomas a supervisor from El Dorado County; Land Use and Natural Resources Committee Chair Michael Saragosa, a councilmember from the City of Placerville, Vice Chair Karm Bains, a supervisor from Sutter County and Jan Clark-Crets, a councilmember from the City of Loomis; and Transportation Committee Chair Don Saylor, a supervisor from Yolo County, Vice Chairs Gary Bradford, a supervisor from Yuba County and Rich Desmond, a supervisor from Sacramento County.
