Inaugural Green Means Go funding
The SACOG board directed the six-county Sacramento region’s share of the statewide REAP 2 funds towards an initial Green Means Go funding program. SB 170 allocated an additional $4 million to fund Green Means Go.
Awards through the inaugural Green Means Go funding program catalyze infill development that improves housing affordability through non-transportation infrastructure and planning activities in locally adopted Green Zones.
Staff released a revised set of program guidelines for the inaugural Green Means Go funding round and conducted a call for projects in the Early Activation, Planning and Capital categories. The SACOG board adopted funding awards in late 2022 (Early Activation category) and early 2023 (Planning and Capital categories).
In 2024 the statewide REAP 2 program received a budget cut of roughly 6%, which carried forward to all Green Means Go awards funded by REAP 2. The below documents summarize the funding awards from the inaugural Green Means Go funding program.

SACOG estimates the initial Green Means Go investment will ultimately unlock 8,000 infill housing units, 6,000 of which would be units available to low or moderate income households. Green Means Go is currently fully obligated (I.e., there is no funding currently available in the program). Program staff continue to work to bring new funding to the program.
