Dylan Hoppe, Accounting Intern

It takes a diverse and talented team to keep things moving at the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG). Interns get to work in many different areas to apply skills they are learning in school and explore new workplaces, like Dylan Hoppe who has been working with SACOG’s accounting team for the past year. He originally joined SACOG to focus on the accounts payable process, Dylan says he’s gained more experience than expected as his intern duties expanded to other areas such as billing and broader accounting processes.

“I was going through an accounting class, and the teacher encouraged students to find accounting internships,” shared Dylan. Like many, he didn’t know much about SACOG when he applied, but through mentorship and support from his new colleagues, he’s learned a lot about the agency’s programs. He shared that he is especially interested in seeing how taxes are applied to public agencies.

“There are a lot of intricate parts and puzzles you have to work through,” said Dylan, “and I like doing that on the government side.” He is still exploring the types of accounting he wants to focus on in his career and plans to continue his studies at Sacramento State University. After his internship at SACOG he says he has a better understanding of accounting in the workplace.

We wish Dylan the best as he continues his career journey, and we’re proud to have been part of his learning experience!
