 On May 9, the City of Roseville celebrated the opening of its newest trail: the Dry Creek Greenway East Trail, Phase 1. The Dry Creek Greenway East Trail is a fully paved bike and pedestrian trail that stretches roughly two miles from Riverside Avenue to Rocky Ridge Drive, and winds alongside scenic Linda Creek. It is the latest installment in Roseville’s already vast 55-mile trail network and adds to the greater vision of the 1,000-mile Sacramento Regional Trail Network. 

Bruce Houdesheldt, Roseville city councilmember and SACOG board member, spoke at the ribbon cutting, saying, “This marks an important moment in our city and for the many residents who helped shape this. The trail represents a vision that’s been years in the making.” Director Houdesheldt also noted that “residents have told us that trails are amongst the most desired amenities in our city.” 

The Dry Creek Greenway East Trail has been in motion since community meetings in 2008 and was officially approved for construction by the Roseville City Council in 2019. Because the trail design involved considerable community input along the way, the final design includes features that make the trail more accessible, such as a trailhead with parking, restrooms, and a water bottle refill station. 

The trail bridges the gap between two preexisting trails, linking residents to local businesses and traveling under Interstate 80. It also provides a vital connection to Warren T. Eich Middle School and is a part of Roseville’s official Safe Routes to Schools program, which encourages students to walk, bike, or roll to school—safely removed from busy streets and cars. 

Phase 2 of the Dry Creek Greenway East Trail, which will span from Rocky Ridge Drive to Old Auburn Road, is slated to begin construction in 2027. Phase 2 received $6,063,000 in regional Active Transportation Program funding from SACOG in 2023.
