It shapes projects in cities and counties across the region and influences the way we live every day. To lead this vision and connect how data drives programs and decisions, SACOG proudly welcomes Becky Johnson and its new Director of Data & Analysis.

Johnson joins SACOG with experience in leading teams and organizations that deliver critical public services where reliable, actionable data are essential to protecting public, workers, and infrastructure. Her experience includes guiding organizations through significant changes, and building capabilities in forecasting and economic modeling, remote sensing, GIS mapping, and AI-informed safety analytics.

“I’m excited about viewing everything we’re doing as one interconnected system,” shared Johnson, “Data allows us to explore what those real-life choices are… it helps us see the ripple effects on climate, housing, and equity.” And with more real-time data tools available, it is becoming easier to see the impacts of policies and be able to respond to those impacts in a meaningful way.

In her career, Johnson has served as a leader at Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) in wildfire risk mitigation, compliance, and investigations; served as the top staff executive for the United Auburn Indian Community; and has held roles at Siemens to advance safety analytics and economic development studies that informed state and federal policy. From 1995-2000, she worked for SACOG as a marketing analyst, focused mostly on transportation demand management, bicycle/pedestrian projects, and outreach for the 2020 Metropolitan Transportation Plan.

She holds a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley; an MBA with a finance concentration from Drexel University; and an M.S. in Human Factors/Systems Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Becky has held numerous community leadership positions, including senior fellow and past chair of the American Leadership Forum – Mountain Valley Chapter. She is an enrolled member of the Hoopa Valley Tribe and resides in unincorporated Sacramento County.
