Earlier this year, the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce announced the newly established Capital Caucus. The caucus is composed of state senators and assemblymembers representing the Sacramento region who are committed to working together to advocate for regional issues.

Among its leaders is Assemblymember Josh Hoover, the representative of the eastern side of Sacramento County, including cities such as Citrus Heights, Folsom, Rancho Cordova, and unincorporated areas in between. Assemblymember Hoover is one of eight legislators engaged in the caucus, and as Hoover points out, this group of bipartisan legislators are connected by one thing—their love for the region.

“Sacramento has so much potential to do huge things over the next few decades,” shared Hoover. “It can be a place where people want to raise their family, work, and play. For the Capital Caucus, what we see in the legislature is a lot of resources and attention going to LA or the Bay Area. We really wanted to have something for the Sacramento region.”

As the Sacramento region continues to be one of the fastest growing in the state, the Capital Caucus is focusing on a cohesive approach to advocate for key issues, including infrastructure, climate initiatives, economic development, and more. They hope to address the most pressing topics on residents’ minds. Using their collective voice, they will amplify these matters and advocate for shared solutions.

Start a tradition—a precedent for working together collectively for the betterment of the region. That’s sort of the power in numbers when it comes to the legislature,” added Hoover.

Members of the caucus are keeping close tabs on issues; staying true to their collaborative roots, they are open to input, insights, and actions from partners and constituents. Hoover wants people to know the caucus remains a resource, with a vision to be a collaborative “to do the most good possible.”
