The Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) Board of Directors has elected city of Elk Grove councilmember Darren Suen as chair, and city of Rocklin mayor Jill Gayaldo as vice chair. They will be sworn in during the first board meeting of the year held on January 16, 2025.
Incoming Chair Suen, representing the city regionally on the board as the chair of the Transportation Committee in 2023, has demonstrated leadership within SACOG and in previous roles such as the past chair of the Sacramento Transportation Authority and the Sacramento Public Library Authority. Suen holds credentials as a registered civil engineer with an MBA and is a certified project management professional (PMP) with the Project Management Institute (PMI). Incoming Vice Chair Gayaldo joined the SACOG board in 2019 and served as chair of the Policy & Innovation Committee in 2024. Gayaldo has demonstrated leadership in transportation, having served as the director of transportation for the Elk Grove Unified School District where she oversaw a department with more than 200 employees and an annual budget of approximately $14 million. In addition to her position on the SACOG board, Gayaldo also represents Rocklin on the Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District. Gayaldo has received an administrator of the year award from Elk Grove Unified and was honored with a lifetime achievement award from Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition.
