In the City of Galt, C Street has been dubbed as the gateway to the community. Now, this central route through the heart of town is being transformed with new bike lanes, sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, and landscaping. The C Street Enhancements Project is currently under construction.
“If you’ve entered C Street from 99, it’s really bare out there,” said Trung Trinh, deputy director of public works. “With this project there is going to be the median, landscaping, rock monument, street lights, protected bike lanes [for] bikes and other forms of transportation.”
Leaders of the city have wanted to revitalize the central area for many years. Initially mapped out in the City of Galt’s 1989 General Plan, the vision has evolved. Now the city has gathered the resources it needs to construct the improvements. Weather permitting, Trinh hopes the project will be done before the end of the year.
It’s a much-needed investment as C Street provides a connection from Highway 99, over railroad tracks that run through the west side of the city, and it provides important connections to businesses and residents on either side. Development of the project included extensive community outreach like public hearings, a walking tour, and comments that helped to guide the city in the final design.

The City of Galt received $2.5 million in Community Design funds from SACOG for this project.
