Placer County Ag Tour
November 13, 2008
Description: Since the 1890s, Placer citrus has been winning state and national acclaim. Most recently, a study conducted by the USDA determined that Placer County Mandarins contain six times more synephrine, a natural antihistamine that relieves cold and allergy symptoms, than the average citrus fruit. Tony Aguilar's Highland Orchard is one of the premiere producers of mandarins in Placer County. His family has been farming the property since the 1940s. In the 1960s, the first mandarins were planted, and they now grow 12 acres and produce enough fruit to sell locally as well as phone orders from around the state and across the country.
