Rural-Urban Connections Strategy (RUCS)
El Dorado Ag Tour
October 24, 2008
Description: El Dorado County Farm Bureau Executive Director Valerie Zentner gave tour participants an overview of the challenges of farming in the county. El Dorado County stands out from other parts of the region because it doesn't export commodities, but instead relies on bringing in consumers to buy products direct from farms, wineries and others. The county sells $54 million in raw product annually, but has an economic impact of over $440 million, mostly from value-added products from wineries and Apple Hill, but also from restaurants, lodging and other tourist services.
