Agritourism Wayfinding

The Sacramento region is home to a growing number of agritourism enterprises that have specific transportation infrastructure needs. Agritourism enterprises rely on “importing” tourists rather than exporting goods, and consequently need different transportation infrastructure investments than a commodity farm or processing facility. For example, commodity farms require roads built to sustain heavy truck traffic, while agritourism sites require uncongested roads with clearly marked roadway signs.

The lack of funding for roadway wayfinding signs was one of the transportation challenges brought up at the December 2008 and August 2009 RUCS workshops. After all, marketing campaigns and advertising are of little consequence if visitors cannot easily find their way to agritourism sites.
