2008 Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Funding Program

This funding program provides grants to local government agencies and their partners in an effort to develop a comprehensive and effective bicycle and pedestrian network. Eligible projects were those ranked as high priority in the Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.

On January 18, 2008, the SACOG Board approved recommended projects the Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Funding Program. Ten projects were awarded a total of $11.4 million. Projects in Sacramento, Yolo, Yuba, and Sutter Counties were eligible in this round of funding. Projects in El Dorado and Placer Counties used a separate selection and funding process due to an agreement between their respective county transportation agencies and SACOG.

The awarded projects were recommended from a selection process comprised of an appointed review committee composed of professional staff and other stakeholders from the four-county area. Applications were evaluated on how well they met goals for bicycle and pedestrian connectivity and cost-effectiveness.

The following bicycle and pedestrian projects were approved for funding in the FY 2008/09 and 2009/10. For each project, a PDF of the application is provided.

City of Elk Grove, Elk Grove Creek Bike/Pedestrian Bridge Crossing at SR-99, awarded $2,500,000.
This project will build a Class I bikeway and bicycle/pedestrian bridge over State Route 99 north of the Elk Grove Blvd. interchange, and extend the Elk Grove Creek Trail to meet at the bridge's bases. This bridge and trail extension closes an important gap in the regional and City's pedestrian/bikeway network. PDF

City of Folsom, Bikestation and "BikeLink" On-Demand Long-Term Class 1 Bike Parking at Transit Stations, awarded $157,935.
The goal of this project is to install secure bike parking to meet the needs of all user groups and provide opportunities for all residents to access the light rail stations. BikeLink is an operating system designed to facilitate on-demand parking or automated deployment of bikes. BikeLink integrates smart electronics and web database technologies. PDF

City of Folsom, Folsom Lake Trail Bike/Pedestrian Overcrossing, awarded $575,000.
Connecting east Folsom and El Dorado County to the American River Parkway, creating an alternative off-street bikeway along the East Natoma Street transportation corridor, providing barrier-free bikeway access from El Dorado hills to the American River Trail, access to numerous recreational opportunities including Folsom Lake and Historic Folsom. City of Galt, Pedestrian Safety Improvements at UPRR crossings, awarded $687,271.
The project will install at-grade pedestrian crossings of UPRR at Carillion Blvd., C Street, A Street, F Street, Elm Avenue east of Industrial, Elm Avenue east of McFarland, and Kost Road. PDF

City of Rancho Cordova, Bicycle Component to the International Extension and Folsom South Canal Bridge, $888,000.
The proposed project would allow for a safer bicycle/pedestrian path under the International Drive Bridge. PDF

City of Sacramento, I-80 Bike/Pedestrian Bridge at the West Canal, awarded $4,526,646.
The project is a new connection between North and South Natomas, including design, environmental, right-of-way and construction. PDF

Sacramento Air Quality Management District, Bicycle Parking Incentive Project, awarded $309,855.
This project will provide funding for the purchase and installation of approximately 1,000 bicycle racks for short term bicycle parking within the Sacramento Air Quality Management District. PDF

Sacramento Area Council of Governments, Regional Bicycle Trip Planner and Regional Bicycle Routes Map Set, awarded $250,903.
This project is designed to create a Regional Bicycle Trip Planner and Bicycle Routes Map Set. This project is important for the region's efforts to make bicycling a more accessible transportation option. The Trip Planner and Map Set will help potential, new, and existing cyclists locate safe and direct bicycle routes to any place in the region. PDF

Sacramento County, Arden Way Improvement Project (Eastern Ave. to Fair Oaks Blvd.), awarded $1,530,000.
This project includes construction of bicycle and pedestrian improvements along Arden Way, including new sidewalks, bike lanes, shade trees, a traffic signal with bicycle and pedestrian detectors, and intersection improvements. The project will provide connectivity to existing sidewalks and Class II bike lanes. PDF

Yolo County, Davis-Woodland Bikeway-Complete Class 2 Bicycle Lanes along CR 29 and a portion of 99D, $368,568.
This project will fund construction Class II bicycle lanes to eliminate a gap in the Davis-Woodland Bikeway project along a one-mile stretch of County Road 29 and a portion of County Road 99D in Yolo County. PDF

Yolo County Transportation District, Retrofit YOLOBUS Bus Fleet with Higher Capacity Bike Racks, awarded $25,419.
YOLOBUS will increase their bicycle rack capacity by 50% by placing triple-bike bicycle racks on most buses, plus a slide out double bike bicycle rack on up to two over-the-road coaches. PDF
