Planners Committee Education Workshops

The SACOG Planners Committee Education Workshops are held periodically to provide informational sessions on selected planning topics. The workshops are designed for local land use planners but are open to anyone. No RSVP is necessary, unless the event notice specifically requests one.

The next Planners Committee Workshop has not been scheduled yet.

Past Workshops

The following are descriptions of Planners Committee workshops held since 2008. Some of the presentations made by panelists are available for downloading.

  • On May 28, 2009, a workshop was held on SACOG Modeling Tools for Local Land Use Planners. A panel of SACOG employees discussed different computer modeling tools — forecasting, mapping and visualization — that are available for local land use planners to use.   • On April 16, 2009, the Planners Committee workshop was held on Air Quality Issues and Infill Development. The workshop concentrated on air quality standards and practices as it relates to implementing smart growth.

  • On February 26, 2009, the workshop Innovative Development in a Down Economy was held. This workshop focused on private developers who are forging ahead with smaller-scale innovative infill projects despite current market conditions. Residential and residential/retail mixed use projects were featured. The speakers were: Jeremy Drucker, Stitch Development; Julie Young, Young Clifford LLC; and Levi Benkert, LJ Urban. No powerpoint files from the event have been made available for public viewing.
  • On October 21, 2008, a Planners Committee workshop was held on Parking Management in Smart Growth Communities. A panel of three speakers discussed issues relating to parking management in high density mixed-use communities.
