In 2008, SACOG adopted the Metropolitan Transportation Plan for 2035 (MTP2035), a long-range plan for transportation in the region built on the Blueprint. SACOG is required by federal law to update the MTP at least every four years. Since the last MTP, California adopted Senate Bill 375, which requires a Sustainable Communities Strategy, similar to the Sacramento region's smart land use Blueprint project, to be added to transportation plans across the state. The downturn in the economy has also resulted in less money for transportation, especially at the local level. SACOG will be factoring these changes into the update of the MTP2035.
SACOG staff has begun the technical work for an update to the MTP2035. To be added to the stakeholder list, visit the signup page or call (916) 321-9000.
As part of the technical work, SACOG is participating in a Senate Bill 375 target-setting process with the California Air Resources Board, Caltrans, and other Metropolitan Planning Organizations in the state. SACOG has the opportunity to submit recommended greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets in advance of the Air Resources Board's release of draft targets this summer. SACOG is conducting technical work to develop potential targets, which it will share at board committees, a public workshop, and advisory committees in May and early June.
On March 20, 2008, SACOG's Board of Directors approved the Metropolitan Transportation Plan for 2035 (MTP2035) after more than two years of extensive public input. The corresponding Environmental Impact Report (both Draft and Final) and Air Quality Conformity Determination are also available for review. In addition, the full press release is available.
