Comments on action summary: Rob Leonard of Sacramento County Airports clarified that the summary should have stated that balancing the issues of airport capacity and airport ground transportation capacity in the region is one of the biggest challenges for goods movement. Information Sharing. Christopher Cabaldon, West Sacramento Mayor, announced that IKEA will be opening on March 1. In response to Mike McKeevers question of how do we get the railroads to participate in these meetings, Larry Greene of the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District mentioned that he had some contacts with Union Pacific and would help to try to bring them to future meetings. Patrick Tyner and John Williamson of Caltrans also mentioned that Tom Messer had considerable contacts with the railroad industry. Sam Driggers of the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce said that he had some contacts with the railroads. Mike Luken of West Sacramento mentioned that he was encouraging the Port of Oakland to participate and that they had good contacts with both Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe. Presentation on Goods Movement and Air Quality. Larry Greene of the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District gave a presentation on the air quality challenges the region is facing and how dealing with them will affect goods movement. Presentation on Goods Movement Mobility: Jason Crow gave a presentation on existing congestion trouble spots in the region, forecasts for future trouble spots, and projects from the last Metropolitan Transportation Plan that will address goods movement needs over the next twenty years. Goods Movement Data Sources. SACOG is continuing to solicit GMAG members for any known sources of goods movement data relevant to the region. Jason Crow mentioned that a goods movement study is underway in the San Joaquin Valley and also noted that information from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics 2002 Commodity Flow Survey may contain information relevant to the upcoming goods movement study effort. Update on Regional Goods Movement Study. SACOG received eight proposals in response to the RFP for Phase 1 of the Regional Goods Movement Study. Staff originally anticipated bringing the study to the Board for contract approval on February 16, but this has now been pushed back to March 16. Work on phase 1 is expected to be completed by June 30. Other Matters. Mike Lamadrid and Rob Huber of FedEx provided some insight on some of the reasons for different facilities being sited where they are in the region Adjournment: the next meeting of the Goods Movement Advisory Group is scheduled for February 28, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Future meetings are scheduled for March 23, April 13 and May 11.
