TALL Order Forum Slated for April 30: Registration Now Available

Forging a better future for the Sacramento Region, enhancing mobility and avoiding sprawl are the focus of TALL Order: Choices for Our Future, the 2004 Regional Forum and first regional-scale workshop of the award-winning Sacramento Region Blueprint Project. The daylong event will be held April 30 in the Grand Ballroom of the Sacramento Convention Center.

The Forum will be a major milestone in a year of intense public participation throughout the Sacramento region, with the unveiling of three proposed alternative land use scenarios for regional growth. The special guest speaker is New York Times best-selling author Malcolm Gladwell whose book “The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference,” has becomean integral part of everyday parlance.

TALL Order is a presentation of the Sacramento Area Council of Governments, the transportation-planning agency for the six-county Sacramento Region, and civic partner Valley Vision, a nonprofit organization committed to building civic engagement while addressing regional issues.

Seating for TALL Order is limited and early registration is highly recommended. Online registration is available at www.sacog.org. Questions should be directed to A.J. Tendick, at 916-340-6215. Credit card payments may be made at www.sacog.org. Payment by check may be sent to: SACOG, 1415 L St., Suite 300, Sacramento, CA 95814. Registration scholarships are available for those meeting certain criteria. To inquire about scholarships, contact Joan Medeiros, Deputy Executive Director, SACOG, at 916-340-6207.

Growth in the Sacramento Region is projected to push its population beyond 3.7 million by 2050. During the past year SACOG and Valley Vision in collaboration with local government have held close to 40 highly successful Blueprint scenario-planning workshops where participants mapped out the future of their neighborhoods or counties. These efforts won Blueprint the Governor’s Award for Environmental and Economic Leadership in 2003. The exercise moves to the regional scale at TALL Order with crafting a regional preferred scenario to guide future growth.

The Blueprint Project was initiated by SACOG’s Board of Directors to inform their transportation-planning efforts and ensure that transportation and land use planning are linked. Blueprint’s data will be used in the next Metropolitan Transportation Plan and in local planning efforts throughout the region.

TALL Order is sponsored in part by the California Department of Transportation, KB Home, KVIE Channel 6, KXJZ Capital Public Radio, the Sacramento Bee, SBC, the Sacramento Business Journal, Sierra Health Foundation, Teichert, Inc., and the University of California, Davis.
