Sixty Sacramento Area Employers Gain Honor for Promoting Good Commuting Practices that Offer Environmental Benefits
WHO:
Mayor Heather Fargo, City of Sacramento, Vice-Chair, Sacramento Area Council of Governments Board of Directors
Robin Snyder, Best Workplaces for Commuters Program Director, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
Tom Gagen, CEO, Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento
Matt Mahood, CEO, Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce
Sue Teranishi, President, American Lung Association of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails
WHAT:
Getting people out of their own cars and onto their bikes or light rail reduces traffic and helps protect air quality. On this Earth Day, 60 area employers - representing a mix of big and small employers, private companies, nonprofit organizations, and public agencies - will be recognized for their extraordinary efforts to improve the quality of life in our region, reduce area traffic and protect the environment by making it possible for their employees to use good commuting practices. These companies will be honored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Sacramento Area Council of Governments as 2005's Best Workplaces for Commuters. All of those recognized offer superior commuter benefits, such as subsidized transit passes, vanpool subsidies, shuttle services or telecommute programs.
WHEN:
Earth Day, Friday, April 22, 2005 at 10:30 a.m.
WHERE:
Sutter General Hospital, Boardroom (2nd floor Administration) 2801 L Street, Sacramento
Of Note: Employees who routinely commute by bicycle, light rail, and carpool will participate. A tour of Sutter's commuter amenities, such as bike lockers and showers, will be offered.
