Airport Land Use Planning
SACOG serves as the Airport Land Use Commission (ALUC) for Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba Counties. It is responsible for developing and maintaining comprehensive land use plans (CLUPs) to protect public health and safety and ensure compatible land uses in the areas around each airport.
The ALUC also works with cities and counties to ensure consistency between local land-use plans and comprehensive land use plans for airport areas. Major CLUP updates are expected to get underway in 2004 for Sacramento International Airport and Mather Airport. An update of McClellan Field's CLUP is expected to be completed in 2004. SACOG's other aviation planning activities include participation in the state Capitol Improvement (CIP) process. The CIPS is a list of a capital needs of the region's public-use airports. The list, which is updated biennially, serves as a guide for current and future airport development and is used as a the basis for state funding of airport projects. SACOG also updates the Regional Aviation System Plan, which provides a comprehensive look at the region's aviation system and analyzes the capability of the region's airports to meet future needs.
